Unfortunately, many people are not responsible enough to properly care for their pets or they are simply not aware of what it takes to be a dog owner. When they do eventually get a dog, they suddenly find that it is not something they have expected and do not know how to properly bring up, feed or handle the dog and have to abandon it. Therefore, it is absolutely imperative that you study the breed very carefully before purchasing a pet, because its misfortunes, if any, will be blamed on you.

Some owners of these dogs are no longer able to care for their pets and have to surrender them. There are many volunteer organizations that help abandoned purebred dogs find new homes. Various dogs can be found in such organizations. The majority of abandoned pets are adult or elderly and have behavioral or health problems that made the previous owners surrender them. Prior to adoption all dogs are kept in foster homes for rehabilitation and assessment. Prospected owners are carefully tested and their homes are inspected.
