A chihuahua's size isn't determined by breeding-down a larger dog, kennels just breed carefully for good health.
These dogs are not intended for any special service, because they are bred as purely domestic animals. However, they make superb therapy dogs and are great companions for the elderly. They can do okay without a yard and can be litter-trained, but there should be enough space in the house for your dog to run. These dogs appreciate daily exercise and make good travelers. They hate boredom and are prone to separation anxiety. They should not be trusted with larger dogs or small children.

Chihuahua's -
dog, kennels
This is the only dog breed truly indigenous to the Western Hemisphere. It came from Mexico and was named after the state of the same name. This breed was well known and worshipped among the Aztecs as well as the Toltecs. These dogs are naturally small and aren't a result of "breeding-down" larger breeds, as were with other toy breeds. It is the smallest breed of dog in the world. According to the AKC standard the dogs weight up to 6 pounds.
