The first breed club that promotes Chihuahuas in the Unites States appeared in 1923. Many people who happened to see the Chihuahua took to it at once. They acquired these little dogs and sought for assistance in breeding and owning the Chihuahua. The Chihuahua Club of America was a great help in educating breeders and owners on the issue of raising the dog. The club was active in the organization of shows and other events that contributed to the popularization of the breed and were often the place where people got acquainted with the dog for the first time.

The Chihuahua became popular in Europe and other countries in the second half of the 20th century. Breed fanciers established clubs and inspired other canine lovers with their love toward the breed. Nowadays, there are many Chihuahua clubs around the world. Very often, Chihuahua lovers who spared no pains in promoting the breed started them. This was the case with Gertrude Pinner, a lady who brought the first Chihuahua in Austria. The Austrian Chihuahua Club was established in 1973. Its success is confirmed by numbers of breed fanciers that have grown considerably by today.

The British Chihuahua Club was formed in 1949. Breed fanciers used American imports as the foundation of the breeding stock. Actually, the history of the Chihuahua in Great Britain deserves much attention. Devotion of British Chihuahua lovers is worth of praise. Chihuahuas are now popular dogs in this country as well as in other European countries.
